简介：1972年，江南水乡的长青大队，正在抢收抢种，小学放了农忙假。阿勇从根生和小牛拾到的两只鸭蛋上，发现地主凌金财企图把某游牧放鸭队丢失的一群鸭子偷卖掉。阿勇等截回鸭子，并征得党支部同意，在找到鸭子主人前，先把鸭子养起来。凌金财诱骗根生离开放鸭岗位，乘机设法惊散了鸭群。阿勇批评了根生，与伙伴们一起，冒着风雨把鸭群赶了回来，发现一只伤鸭不见了。在找鸭过程中，阿勇遭到坏人暗算，胳膊被打伤。凌金财挑拨根生离开红小兵队伍，阿勇动员红小兵一起去找根生做工作，阿勇妈对孩子们进行教育，使阿勇和根生重新团结在一起。根生在得知鸭子的主人是邻县江城大队之后，便偷偷把鸭子从水路赶走，想送到江城大队去，出其不意地立一大功，挽回面子。凌金财勾结邻村的韩老五，企图中途骗走鸭子，陷害根生。阿勇闻讯，追上根生，劝其把鸭子赶回，根生不听，反责怪阿勇不够朋友，坚持送鸭，结果被韩老五推到水里。阿勇和凌金财、韩老五搏斗，救起了根生，自己却晕倒在水里。根生看到阿勇为救自己而住院，很受感动。阿勇伤愈出院后，他和伙伴们一起把鸭子送到江城大队。
