汉瑞（Matt Cohen 饰）和劳拉（Danielle Savre 饰）兄妹俩童年时曾亲眼目睹父母被人残忍杀害，他们从此患上惧怕黑暗的毛病，生怕黑暗中的恶灵会跑出来伤害他们。孤独的两兄妹相依为命，成长期间不断接受精神治疗。哥哥的病情开始有了明显好转，他决心去另一个城市开始新的生活。
胆小的劳拉独自住进精神病院，然而她的恶梦却从此开始。夜晚，病友接二连三离奇死亡，死状恐怖。似乎曾困扰她和哥哥多年的恶灵终于从黑暗中走出，对其展开了无情的狩猎……
