林美凤（解惠清 饰）的母亲在她四岁那年去世了，而父亲则一直缺席着林美凤的童年。小姨收留了无处可去的林美凤，一手将她拉扯长大。虽然小姨从来不和林美凤提起她父亲的事情，但在林美凤的心里，还是非常想要见一见自己的父亲的。后来，林美凤得到了消息，自己的父亲目前居住在东莞长安镇，于是义无反顾的只身一人踏上寻父之旅。
东莞是一个汇聚了所有流言蜚语的是非之地，在这里，林美凤坚强的生存着，她做过超市收银员，也做过工厂女工，尝尽了辛酸，更背负着来自家人的误解和鄙视。最终，林美凤找到了一个酒店服务员的工作，这份工作带给她了她人生中最大的挑战和诱惑。
